Shane Carolan Name: Shane Carolan Age: Hobby/Interest: Outdoor management We decided we would meet up with Shane and head out to a nice outdoor setting to record our interview and footage as it was a really nice evening, we had picked up Shane in Coolock so we decided to drive out to Howth as there is a beautiful cliff walk and views out by the cliffs. After finding a nice background for our interview we asked Shane a couple f questions about his hobbies, interests and goals. We then traveled to another spot close by for the second half of our interview to add a variety of different shots into our video, throughout or journey we shot B-roll that would compliment our interview footage nicely.

Lee Byrne Name: Lee Byrne Age: Hobby/Interest: Running After getting in touch with Lee and asking about his training regime we decided to follow him out to the National Indoor Arena in Snugborough in Dublin. We had been in contact with the arena and organised permission to shoot there with Lee as there was no events on that day. when we arrived we talked through our project, shot list and goals for the video. we wanted to get a short interview from Lee about his Training, ambitions in Running and how he uses his sport to live a fuller and happier life. We really enjoyed shooting in the arena as the staff and facilities were excellent and the main arena hall is very well lit which in turn gave us very good footage to work with in our video.

Logo Process By Conor Brennan

Image
The first logo made by James was our primary logo for the first semester. As the project progressed, the team agreed that we should further develop on our previous idea. I myself designed the updated logo during semester two using Adobe InDesign. James later animated the logo in AfterEffects. We decided to go with a more modern looking design that used a lot more white space. We went with a more geometric look this time around. The logo is an hourglass to symbolize time. The breaks in the logo are supposed to represent change. There is no sand inside the hourglass to symbolize the fact that people do not know how much time they have left to live. Social Media Engagement

Project Chronos engagement  The Figures A long with the easily accessible Instagram came their handy business feature "Insights". Insights allowed us to monitor the behavior of our Instagram and see how well it was doing throughout the course of semester 2. We were able to track and manipulate our uploads depending on when our followers were most active so that we could reach as many people as possible Below you can see the full insights we have collected:  Advertising At first we had an explosive interaction with friends and family reaching out and wishing to collaborate. It was great at first but we noticed a natural decline in the followers and likes ratio. We decided to experiment with Instagram's showcase payment options. James set up a payment option that would last 5 days for 5 euro. This way one of our posts and our profiles was able to appear on over 6,000 individuals Instagram Feed and they had the option to click on it. We decide...

Instagram Design Method

Image
Instagram Layout Instagram Design & How it works Instagram is designed to allow you to upload photos in a grid form. 3 across and infinite amount downwards. Knowing this we decided to use it to our advantage. Instagram allows you to post multiple photos in a connected frame to create a big picture to your viewing pleasure. By doing this we were able to create an aesthetically appealing experience for the content viewer. Our options We had many options to come up with depending on our design. Originally we wanted it to be a black background with white text but after trial and error we discovered the black to be very discomforting and negative for our positive outlook on the project. We decided to use the instagram's white HEX code as the spacers between each person/character showcased. This allowed us to work with more white space and use it to our advantage so that someone viewing our instagram is given the choice and pleasure of scrolling along our page.

Social Media Platform

Image
Instagram Logo Social Media Platform Originally we were going to start with creating a short film dedicated to motivating people to do more in life. We brainstormed for weeks the correct way to show off our film and story and in the end Ian Maher came up with the idea to use Social Media as an outlet for our creative process. He devised a plan to show off multiple mediums of creative media such as Photography, Design and Film as well as show off our skill of digital media management and advertising. Why Instagram? Instagram is a perfect platform for our Idea. It mixes Typography, Design, Film and photography into a grid-like platform. We decided Instagram would be our ideal platform as it was something all of us was aware of and we were confident in using Instagram to its fullest extent.

Equipment & Reflection By Conor Brennan

Image
It never would have been possible to produce any of the Project Chronos videos without the right equipment for the job. Over the course of two semesters, the team became a lot more familiar with using cameras and microphones. All of the audio for our videos was captured using a shotgun and zoom mic. After editing some of our outdoor videos we learned it would have been more suitable to use a lapel mic. The zoom recorder picked up a lot of background noise when placed on the ground below our participants which led to some videos being unusable.   Equipment List   DSLR Camera's  Tripods Zoom Mic Shotgun Mic  Memory Cards Batteries  Go Pro Camera Image by Larry Jacobsen

Project Chronos Design Philosophy

Branding Workshop with Mark Shiels we discovered more time based, elements to include with Project Chronos, ultimately we are a brand similar to watches as we emphasise the importance of time. During Semester 1 we had a brand, but the brand was not reflective on what Project Chronos aims to do, Our logo needed to be re-worked to be more dynamic, more legible and ultimately more neat and tidy. Our project books design was not sharp and dynamic enough to fit our brand. Our Instagram was not branded enough and looked like a regular Instagram not a professional Project. Now we have fixed all those problems and believe we have a distinguishable brand and well thought out design for the book, Instagram, Each individual video as we have incorporated a custom Project Chronos introduction, and logo.

Interview Process

During each interview, as a group we aimed to get a specific amount of footage and nice amount of good quality questions asked so we have a healthy amount of material to choose from and use inside our one minute videos for Instagram. We aimed our questions towards the time subject. Are you spending the free time you have wisely?  Any advice to people who would be afraid to try new activities in their own time.   We also aimed our questions towards happiness and mental health. Are you happier since you found your calling, activity, hobby etc? What benefits has being out doing this take on your mental health?  We asked the people to tell their own story and we found that the most usable answers for Instagram where found in the story part of the interview. We found quotes throughout each interview and displayed them as individual posts on Instagram.

Location Scouting

As a collective we decided where in relation to the person / hobby we should go to film. We kept in mind the person's a access to a location, safety and also how fitting the filming location would be for the particular hobby. We thought about including various places for different people. In total the places we did end up filming in where suitable for the people and great footage for us to get an use on our Instagram. In the case where we cannot get out to a location to film someone we would utilise the studio room in TUD Blanchardstown, and keep it as professional as possible. E.G for Lee Byrne we chose to film him in his place of work/training. The location was excellent material and easy to get to and from. Locations that we have chosen for each person include: Moneystown Bike track Howth  National Athletics Centre Ireland Photography Room  Crossfit Gym Botanic Gardens / Scuba Diving  Engineering rooms DCU DCU Park
